What is an Adventure Challenge Course?

Adventure challenge courses are a great way to build teamwork and trust among any group. These challenge courses are usually a set of tasks or 'adventures'. With ropes courses, there are 'low' courses and 'high' courses. Both types will present a challenge that will build the trust and teamwork among your group.

You can find adventure challenge courses in most communities. They are often in parks or school playgrounds. However, there are also corporate training facilities that are specifically designed for catering to team building exercises. Some courses are geared towards a single group of people while others can accommodate multiple groups. When it comes to choosing the facility for your adventure, think about whether your group would be easily distracted by participating with strangers. This can sometimes impede the results of these courses.

The most common form of adventure challenge courses are ropes courses. As mentioned earlier, they can be high or low courses. Lower courses present the same challenges and develop the same skills as the high courses, so do not think that 'low' means less. The high courses bring the fear element into these adventure challenge courses as they are usually built on utility poles and other tall structures.

Another form of challenge course that has become more popular recently is a rock wall, or rock climbing course. New technologies have made these courses safer than many believe and they can build the same sets of team and leadership skills as ropes courses. The availability of a rock climbing course is a challenge in many areas, but if one is available, look into it as an option for your group. Deciding between the two all depends on your particular group, so decide carefully before you take off on your adventure.
